Manuel Aristides Ramirez
was born on May 30, 1972, in Santo Domingo,
Dominican Republic. Raised a short distance from Yankee Stadium,
Ramirez attended George Washington High School in Washington
Heights, a neighborhood in New York City. While attending the
school, he was named All-City in 1989, 1990 and 1991 and was the
New York City Public Schools High School Player of the Year in
1991.
Recruited to join the Majors out of high school,
Ramirez, a right-handed outfielder, would prove to be one of the
best hitters in baseball.
He
played with the Cleveland Indians from 1993-2000 and has played
for the Boston Red Sox since 2001.
In 2004, he
helped the Red Sox end an 86-year losing streak to become World
Champions. Ramirez was named the Series Most Valuable Player that
year.
Ramirez and his wife, Juliana, make their
off-season home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
